Assiduo Announces Appointment of Professor Paul Zipkin as Chief Scientist

Toronto - September 29, 2003 - Assiduo, a leading provider of decision support applications for supply chain management, announces today the appointment of Dr. Paul H. Zipkin as Chief Scientist.  Dr. Zipkin, who retains his position as T. Austin Finch, Senior Professor of Business at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, will continue to lead the company's continued development and customization of the advanced technologies at the heart of its multi-echelon inventory optimization module.

Dr. Zipkin brings 30 years of research in optimization and computational techniques for operations research problems, and is an internationally renowned expert in the field of inventory optimization.

Dr. Zipkin has worked closely with Assiduo since January 2002 in developing the company's advanced multi-echelon inventory optimization engine.  This element includes computationally efficient, proprietary algorithms for determining optimal inventory levels and performance projections for large scale distribution systems.

"We are delighted and honoured that Paul continues to work with us in breaking new ground in decision support for the supply chain." said
Mr. Chennells.  "His work exemplifies the enormous impact that operations research can have in making our core industries more efficient and competitive.  More broadly, it underlines the importance of strong cross-fertilization between the worlds of academia and enterprise software development."

Previously, Paul was the Armand G. Erpf Professor of Business at Columbia University.  Paul is author of the seminal 2000 work, Foundations of Inventory Management, as well as almost 60 refereed articles.  He is a Fellow of the Manufacturing & Service Operations Management Society, and Senior Editor of Manufacturing & Service Operations Management.

Paul holds a doctorate from Yale University, a master's from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor of arts from Reed College.
